The wine that put Hunter Valley Semillon on the world stage. Vat 1 is one of Australia's most collectable whites — bone dry, unwooded, and impossibly light at around 11% alcohol when young, it transforms over decades into a toasty, honeyed masterpiece. The 1963 vintage was the first to carry the Vat 1 label; today it remains the benchmark for the style. From the low-yielding sandy soils of Pokolbin, it needs at least five years but rewards fifteen or more.
