Gruner Veltliner

Australia's first planting of Gruner Veltliner, established by winemaker Chris Carpenter in 2005 as a deliberate push into alternative cool-climate varieties. From the extreme-altitude Bungendore estate, the wine is peppery, herbal and tightly wound with high natural acidity — a distinctly Austrian variety finding an unlikely but compelling home at 860 metres in the Canberra District.
